Muckross House
A visit to Killarney, or indeed Co. Kerry, would not be complete without a trip to the world-renowned Muckross House and Gardens.
Muckross House is one of Ireland's leading stately homes. It is beautifully situated amidst the spectacular scenery of Killarney National Park. The elegantly furnished rooms portray the life-styles of the landed gentry, while downstairs in the basement one can experience the working conditions of the servants employed in the House. The Gardens are renowned worldwide for their beauty.
Situated on the shores of Muckross Lake, amid the splendid and spectacular landscapes of Killarney National Park, The House, a magnificent Victorian mansion, was built in 1843.
The gardens of Muckross House are famed for their beauty world-wide. In particular they are noted for their collections of azaleas and rhododendrons. However an extensive water garden, and an outstanding rock garden hewn out of natural limestone are just some of the other features to be found. Using Muckross House as a base the visitor can explore and enjoy the surrounding National Park, which is the oldest in Ireland.
