Lough Neagh
Lough Neagh is the largest lough (Lake) in Ireland and the British Isles. It is approximately 18 miles long and 11 miles wide. It borders on all of the Northern Ireland Counties with the exception of Co.Fermanagh which has its own share of Loughs in the form of Lower and Upper Lough Erne.
Irish Mythology legend records that Lough Neagh was the result of a quarrel between Finn MacCoul who"built" the Giants Causeway and a Scottish giant called Fingal. Finn grabbed a sod of earth and hurled it at Fingal as he was returning to Scotland, his aim however was not great and the sod landed in the Irish sea. It remains there to this day in the form of the Isle of Man.
Lough Neagh like Strangford Lough is a favourite spot for ornithologists as it attracts an enormous number of wild fowl and in particular duck during the winter months
