in Ireland Personal security is a question that is often asked about when visitors are planning to come to Ireland, particularly if they plan to travel to Northern Ireland. The facts are simple Ireland North and South are like any other country for the visitor, certain parts of large cities particularly late at night are best avoided, It is a question of common sense. One exception is that in the North of Ireland certain restrictions apply to car parking in security zones but this is well sign-posted if in doubt ASK. Should you need to contact the Police force for any reason the details are as follows In the North of Ireland the police force is know as the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) whilst in the South of Ireland the police force is known as the Garda.
Throughout Ireland the Emergency services Police Fire Ambulance and coastguard are immediately contractible via telephone by Dialling 999 this call is free from all phones including Public Pay Phones. Health Treatment Health Treatment for European Union visitors may be obtained free of charge in both North & South of Ireland on production of a valid E111 form (Please ask your travel agent about this prior to departure) All other visitors should either arrange to have sufficient medical insurance or be prepared to pay for medical treatment. |
